MLB Draft 2017

MLB Draft 2017 is underway as thirty MLB teams draft players in forty rounds over the span of three days, June 12-14. When the dust settles on June 14th, 1200 high school players, college players, and foreign players will know what their baseball future holds, and MLB rosters will change drastically. For the third time in history, the Minnesota Twins hold the number one pick in the draft, and since the Twins only have one winning season in the past six years, this year’s selection is crucial to the future of that franchise.  Of course, the same can be said for the other twenty-nine teams.  Which player will be the next Mark Prior or Mark Teixeira, break-out college players who were able to help turn their teams around within a couple of years?  Which players will be highly-touted and yet be a bust in the Majors?

2017 does not boast a clear Number One.  There are outstanding college pitchers like Kyle Wright of Vanderbilt, and Brendan McKay of Louisville, and outstanding high school players like RHP/SS Hunter Greene, but scouts cannot agree on a sure-fire top pick, so this year’s draft promises to hold surprises galore.

The top ten draft picks in the MLB Draft 2017 will be as follows:

  • Minnesota
  • Cincinnati
  • San Diego
  • Tampa Bay
  • Atlanta
  • Oakland
  • Philadelphia
  • Milwaukee
  • Los Angeles Angels
  • Chicago White Sox

Thirty teams, forty rounds, 1,200 selections, and the future of some baseball organizations in the balance.  Exciting times for sure!

Minor league baseball rosters are about to have an influx of players.
